Projects

Since 2006, as a sole entrepreneur and since 2010 as a limited partnership, DMAT has been working as a project partner or expert in a wide variety of international projects. We participate in the development and testing of innovative technologies, preventive measures, and operational solutions to protect and secure the affected population in the event of a disaster.

We would like to give you a first impression of our activities, especially in European civil protection, with the examples below.

SecureGas – Security for the European gas network

Start: June 2019 – End: December 2021

Researchproject

SecureGas was a research project under the EU’s Horizon 2020 program for research and innovation, aimed at strengthening the security and resilience of the European gas network in consideration of cyber-physical threats.

DMAT was responsible for developing disaster management training for employees in the gas network companies, as well as for the development, implementation, and monitoring of the prescribed ethical guidelines.

PDEX-JIP – Professional Dialogue Exercises – Jordan Israel Palestine

Start: 1 December 2021 – End: 31 May 2023

Full-scale exercises / large-scale exercise

The project was implemented within the framework of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM)

The project objective was to improve the management of major disaster events through the cooperation of all actors involved and to enable the support of vulnerable groups through a joint, cross-border large-scale exercise for Jordan, Israel and Palestine.

As part of the planning and implementation of the large-scale exercise, DMAT was able to work together with all project partners and all stakeholders from the Greater Region, e.g. on the development of “Common SOPs” (common standard operating procedures), the adaptation of disaster management plans, the implementation of a lessons learned event and the development of specific Host Nation Support (HNS) guidelines.

RESPONSEE – Planning, development and implementation of a European Union civil protection project to improve earthquake response in Southeast Europe

Start: 1 January 2021 – End 31 December 2022

Planning, development, and execution of large-scale exercises

The project was carried out under the EU’s disaster protection procedure, the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM)

The goal of this project was to strengthen disaster preparedness in the Western Balkans (WB) by improving interoperability, facilitating and supporting cooperation with international disaster relief, and bringing Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina closer to the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.

DMAT acted as an expert for the project coordinator, the regional government of Styria, Department of Disaster Management, GovSt, as well as all project partners in analyzing the civil protection situation and the exercise capabilities of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, in joint exercise planning, developing a guideline for exercise planning, and reviewing through a Table Top Exercise/TTX, Command Post Exercise/CPX, and Full Scale Exercise/FSX.

HEUREKA – Platform for knowledge partnership in the field of civil protection in the Middle East.

Start: 1 January 2021 – End: 30 June 2022

Establishment of a Knowledge Partnership

The main goal was to facilitate cooperation between players in disaster management and providers of humanitarian aid, using the International Humanitarian Partnership/IHP as an example, in order to establish a long-term relationship and improve collaboration and synergies in prevention, preparedness, and response.

DMAT served as an expert to support the project coordinator, the State Government of Styria, Department of Disaster Management, GovSt, as well as all project partners in planning and implementing the cooperation structure and knowledge transfer between neighboring states, as well as thematic workshops.

PACES –Preparedness for Appropriate aCcommodation in Emergency Shelters

Be prepared with suitable emergency accommodation

Start: January 1, 2016 – End: December 31, 2017

Preparedness project, co-funded by DG-ECHO the European Civil Protection Mechanism

The project aimed to develop and improve the organization and coordination of aid services and deployment procedures for the evacuation of people from disaster areas, as well as to establish emergency shelters. The target groups were particularly affected individuals with special needs, such as injured persons, people with physical and/or mental disabilities, as well as older adults or children.

DMAT participated in both the planning and development of training materials and to conduct a project workshop in Styria, as well as a practical deployment exercise with the Graz professional fire department.
