EU MODEX AT – an international civil protection exercise in Styria
The exercise begins: an earthquake shakes Styria…
We are still looking for role players and injured actors for this scenario!
In the 42nd calendar week (Oct. 14 – Oct. 17, 2025), an international civil protection exercise of the European Commission (EU MODEX AT) will take place in the greater area of Graz and Graz Umgebung. Next to a mountain rescue team, a cave rescue team, two urban search and rescue teams, a technical support team and an EU civil protection team, three field hospitals will also be involved.
In the exercise scenario, Styria, and in particular the greater area of Graz and Graz Umgebung, is declared a disaster zone due to an earthquake, heavy rainfall and mudslides. People are trapped and seriously injured under the rubble. With the local emergency services at their limits, international assistance was requested via the European Civil Protection Mechanism and rescue teams from Europe, Turkey and Georgia arrived at Graz Thalerhof Airport. A race against time has begun ….
For this exercise, we are looking for volunteer role-players and injury actors (aged 16 and above) who will be searched, rescued and treated by the international teams as realistically as possible. They will be instructed on site by an experienced team in the respective role and, if necessary, receive a realistic make up in order to be able to portray corresponding injury patterns. In the respective role, you have the unique opportunity to experience the side of an injured person first-hand during this exercise, to witness the work of the international teams directly and to see how, for example, a field hospital treats and cares for injured people in the event of an earthquake.
We are looking for up to 300 people per day for the following areas and time periods:
- Injury actors in disaster scenarios and as injury actors in field hospitals
- It is possible to register for one or more periods for a continuous time of 4-8-12 hours. Please indicate the times you are available when you register.
